PHOTOS (2007) A LITTLE HISTORY The Sebastian Inn was originally
built on this site in the about 1925. For many years it was the only
Hotel and lodging along US 1, between Miami and Jacksonville. The
Hotel was a very popular stop for travelers going North and South along the
Florida Peninsula. The Inn was a romantic and scenic landmark in it's
heyday. It was a popular spot on the Indian River shore for many years.
Considered "the best eating place between Jacksonville and Miami," its
restaurant drew crowds of diners on weekends. Overnight guests were treated to
trips on the Indian River aboard the hotel's sight-seeing boat. It continued
till the 60's when US 1 was rerouted 2 blocks West. Business
declined markedly until the Hotel was closed and then demolished in 1968.
During World War II the Inn served as a barracks for the US Naval radar team
stationed in Sebastian. In 2004 Hurricane Jeanne came
whistling through Sebastian. Our pier blew away, the roof was damaged and
some rooms were flooded. We were closed from September 2005 until February
2005. We were very happy to welcome all our old friends back after the
extensive rebuilding and remodeling. We are still working on ways to make
your stay more comfortable What's in the Works WATCH THIS SPACE FOR NEWS ABOUT THE SPORTSMANS. The big news is our new swimming pool. Its now open ands being used by guests. Don't forget your swim suits and rubber ducky this year.
Bedroom TV. Now your kids can watch on one TV, while Mom and Dad watch another channel (or vice-versa) Paving the Parking lot. So far the entrance portion of the lot is done. The interior portion will be crushed rock, so as to not burn feet on the way to the swimming pool. Internet Connection. Some of our customers can pick up our wireless connection. We are working to make this available to all, but right now we can't guarantee your connection. If your have a dial-up connection, you are welcome to come to the office and connect through our own connection. Our New Dock. Our present dock is planned to be about 500 feet and will be an extension of our present dock. The permitting process is under way and we hope to be able to start in the very near future. There will be space for 30 boats including 10 lifts for power boats and room for 10 sailboats. CLAMS Bruno has been interested in clamming
in the Indian River for quite some time. His last attempt at seeding clams
was blown away by the last hurricane. He recently began seeding the area
around the present dock with clams. We hope there will be a big crop of
quahogs. |
